Lower Mustang, located in the beautiful Annapurna Region of Nepal, is one of the few Himalayan destinations that can be visited throughout the year.

Autumn (September – November) — Best Overall Season

Autumn is widely considered the best time to visit Lower Mustang. After the monsoon rains, the skies become clear, the air feels fresh, and mountain views are at their sharpest.

Crystal-clear views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri Himal
Comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and jeep tours
Apple harvest season in Marpha — perfect for tasting fresh apples, cider, and local brandy
Roads are generally in the best condition after monsoon dust settles

Spring (March – May) — Pleasant Weather & Blossoms

Spring is another excellent time to explore Lower Mustang, especially for travelers who enjoy mild weather and natural beauty.

Blooming apple orchards and greener landscapes
Comfortable temperatures for visiting Muktinath Temple and nearby villages
Popular pilgrimage season with spiritual atmosphere
Clear mountain views, especially in the mornings

Afternoon winds are common, but jeep travelers are less affected compared to trekkers.

Summer / Monsoon (June – August) — Green Landscapes & Fewer Crowds

Unlike many parts of Nepal, Lower Mustang lies in a rain-shadow area, meaning it receives much less rainfall than other regions.

Highlights:

Dramatic green scenery and unique landscapes
Fewer tourists and quieter destinations
Good option for travelers visiting Nepal during monsoon season

Note: The main challenge is the road between Pokhara and Jomsom, where landslides and muddy conditions can sometimes cause delays.

Winter (December – February) — Snowy Views & Peaceful Travel

Winter offers a completely different but magical experience in Lower Mustang. While temperatures drop significantly, the scenery becomes peaceful and uncrowded.

Snow-covered landscapes around Muktinath
Deep blue skies and excellent mountain visibility
Fewer tourists and better hotel deals
Quiet spiritual atmosphere

Roads are usually open, though occasional ice near Muktinath can make travel slower.
